6 Highly Effective Ways To Motivate Employees

As a small business owner, there are a lot of things on your plate. You have to increase your revenue and make sure that your staff is working as efficiently as possible to boost production rate. As the owner, you are very passionate about your company, but the same cannot always be said about your employees.

There is a saying, “You can’t motivate anyone, they have to motivate themselves”. However, people are more likely to push themselves to work hard if their environment is equally motivating. Motivated employees can result to increased productivity and enable the company to achieve its goals. Here are 6 highly effective ways to motivate employees.

1. Communication

The easiest way to start is by having positive communication at the workplace. Clear and honest verbal or non-verbal connection between employees encourages and strengthens their relationships. The company should also distribute information to their workforce. It makes them feel that they are an important part of the organization. This does not only make the employees feel more respected, this also helps combat rumors that can eventually lead to problems.

2. Do Not Micromanage

Employees do not appreciate it when you are always on their tail, looking at everything they do and criticizing it. You need to show your team that you trust them to make their own decisions and do things differently than you might do. Let them know that you are interested in their own input and recognize their contribution to the company.

3. Be a Good Example

Your workforce looks up to you; so, there is a tendency that they will emulate whatever you do. You can’t expect your employees to behave the way you want them to be, when you don’t lead as an example. Energy can be infectious in the workplace and if they see that you are excited, passionate, and enthusiastic about your work, they will follow.

4. Provide Opportunities

Employees want to continue to develop their knowledge and skills. As their manager, you need to allow your staff members to attend important meetings, events, activities, workshops, and trainings. Make sure that you reassign responsibilities every now and then, so, that your subordinates can experience other jobs that will challenge them to stretch themselves.

5. Get to Know Your Employees

As the employer, getting to know your employee on a personal level shows that you truly care about them. Learning about their career goals, their aspirations, families, and struggles will make them trust you more. Having a bond with your team members is one of the key factors that might make them look forward to their work every single day.

6. Pay Them for What They Are Worth

Compensation is very important. However, if you do not pay your workers for their efforts and contribution to your company, their job enthusiasm will dramatically decrease. It can be a de-motivator if your employees feel that they are underpaid. As the leader of the pack, you have the influence and power to fight for their well-deserved increases, promotions and even bonuses.
